Who needs a DOT Medical Card?

As per federal law, a DOT medical card is compulsory for CMV drivers. Form MCSA-5876 is proof that you are eligible to drive safely.
If you are driving a vehicle big enough to carry more than 15 people, a DOT medical card is mandatory. Also, interstate drivers with vehicles having a gross combination weight of 5 tons or more require a DOT medical card.

Things to Bring to a DOT Physical Exam
A CME (Certified Medical Examiner) will discuss your medical history and current medication. You must submit a detailed list of daily medications along with specific conditions that affect physical or mental state.
Make sure you include the details of the clinic or doctor that prescribed your medications.
If you use eyeglasses or contacts, CME will ask you to pass a vision test using both with and without them.
In short, anything that affects your mental, emotional, and physical state should be discussed with the DOT physical examiner because conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes can result in life-threatening situations while driving or after a minor accident.
What does it mean if I get disqualified?
If you fail to meet any physical qualification standards outlined by FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), then you will be disqualified.
