Bring the exact testing requirement

Your employer or school may request a TB blood test, a skin test or a particular screening form. Bring the written instructions, deadline, previous results and information about any past positive test or TB treatment. Requirements differ; booking a general physical does not necessarily complete the TB screening requirement.

Understanding blood tests and skin tests

A TB blood test uses a blood sample. A TB skin test requires a clinician to check the site 48 to 72 hours after placement. If your program requests two-step skin testing, additional visits may be needed. Call Zenith to confirm which options are currently available and how appointments should be arranged.

Tell us about previous TB testing and BCG vaccination

A history of BCG vaccination can affect how testing is selected; TB blood tests are not affected by BCG. A prior positive TB result needs clinician review rather than simply repeating the same screening test. Bring records when possible so the next step can be chosen appropriately.

Results and documentation

Ask how you will receive your result and how to submit your program’s form. Laboratory turnaround varies, and a result or completed form cannot be guaranteed before a specific deadline without confirming the process. A positive screening result does not by itself establish active TB; further evaluation may be needed.

Symptoms or recent exposure

Call before visiting if you have a persistent cough, coughing up blood, fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss or a known recent TB exposure. Tell the team that TB is a concern so they can advise on the appropriate setting and precautions. Severe breathing difficulty or other emergency symptoms require emergency care.

What to Bring to Your Visit

  • Your employer or school requirement and deadline
  • Previous TB results and any history of treatment
  • The form that needs to be completed

Insurance and Payment

Coverage and billing for employment, school or work-injury services depend on the service and payer. Contact the clinic before your visit to confirm authorization, charges and the appropriate payment arrangements.
